With a contract at Aston Villa expiring in 2023, Douglas Luiz is expected to be sold at one point in the current transfer window if he doesn’t agree to a renewal.
That’s a problem Steven Gerrard and those above him need to sort out sooner rather than later, as clubs are knocking on the Brazilian’s door, with AS Roma pursuing him for quite some time.
However, they have been joined most recently by Milan, who need to bolster their midfield in some shape or form this summer.
Their number one target is Renato Sanches, currently at Lille, but ‘in the meantime, they have made contact with the agents of Douglas Luiz, a Brazilian from Aston Villa’, according to Corriere dello Sport.
This had already been reported on when a meeting took place between parties, but his contract situation makes him an attractive target, even for a Serie A side, which is what they are hoping will end up playing to their advantage.
It’s said Aston Villa’s ‘request is for €25m, but the player could force the issue’, meaning push for an exit at a lower price.
We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out, but it seems Milan will first do their best to keep Sanches away from Paris Saint-Germain first before falling back on the Brazilian.
