Leeds United’s Maximilian Wöber has told Sky Deutschland that he’s keen on representing Austria at Euro 2024 in the summer.
The centre-back has been on loan at Borussia Mönchengladbach since the summer. Two months ago, he revealed that Austria manager Ralf Rangnick had a role in his decision to leave the Championship side.
Suspension and illness mean the Leeds owned player has only featured in only two league games this year. The Bundesliga side have struggled recently and are without a win in their last five league matches.
The 26-year-old has been speaking about Gladbach’s poor run and towards the end of the chat, he was asked about the ‘anticipation’ of representing Austria at the Euros in Germany.
“Huge anticipation! That would be a highlight of my career. Unfortunately, I wasn’t nominated for the last Euros, although I was there and played several times in the qualification,” he said.
“Now I count myself among the group that’s always selected. That’s why I’m really happy when the time comes. But before that, I still have a few tasks to do with Borussia and that’s where my full focus is.”
The defender will have to return to Leeds United after his loan spell with the German club, and his contract at Elland Road lasts until 2027.
On January 25th, Rheinische Post stated Mönchengladbach have to sell to make funds available if they wish to buy him from the Whites after this season.
Participation at Euro 2024 certainly won’t harm his value.
