With Pedro Porro potentially getting the chance of making his debut for the Spain national team today, the Portuguese media are back focusing on the full-back.

Loaned by Manchester City to Sporting at the start of the season, the 21-year-old has gone out of his way to have an impressive season in Lisbon.

Ahead of the Spain game, O Jogo interviewed former Lions full-back Pedro Gomes, whom they asked to give his opinion on Porro, and the 79-year-old had didn’t hold back when praising the Spaniard.

“Porro is good, he’s had a sensational season, defending and attacking, but also for the good goals he has scored,” Pedro Gomes told O Jogo.

“But he needs to stay humble, the resilience – which he has – and the desire to do more and better. To play in Rúben Amorim’s 3-4-3, you need to be smart; he and others have that intelligence, hence this sensational time.”

Porro’s deal at Sporting CP on loan from Manchester City runs until 2022, but the truth is that the transfer could be made permanent long before that.

The Lions only need to pay €8.5m to buy Porro, and given the good season he’s been having, the Portuguese media says they want to anticipate the purchase and avoid any kind of competition for the player.

Earlier this week, it was claimed they would only negotiate with Manchester City the percentage of a future deal before triggering the purchase option.
