Marcos Alonso is one of a number of Chelsea players who have been linked with a big move to Barcelona this summer.
Andreas Christensen is thought to have already agreed a move to the Camp Nou as a free agent, and endless claims from the Catalan media talk of César Azpilicueta potentially joining him.
Chelsea have Alonso on a contract which lasts until June 2023, and whilst that would normally mean a decision needs to be made this summer, whether that be a renewal or a sale, the club may try to keep him regardless, given their current situation and the loss of other players.
Regardless, the claims about Barcelona are set to to continue.
Julio Alberto, who played more than 300 matches for Barcelona, has spoken to Mundo Deportivo, explaining what a good signing Alonso would be for the Camp Nou side, and how it’s a move which would greatly please him.
The Catalan newspaper quote him as saying: “I think that a reinforcement like Marcos Alonso would go very well for Barça because he can not only play wide, but also as a central defender and in the middle. He has talent and Barça DNA, he likes to pamper the ball. In addition, he is from Barça to death because his father played there, although his grandfather won five European Cups with Madrid.
“I must confess that it would be a dream for me to see Marcos Alonso at Barça. I have seen him born, I have held him in my arms for months and he is the son of a great friend. Also, if he signs for Barça he would be close to the family. To me he is like someone in my family.”
