Brighton & Hove Albion fans who follow transfer rumours will certainly remember the name of Julio Enciso, the Paraguayan youngster who was close to joining the club back in January.

With big media coverage at the time, it was claimed the move was done. Then once it collapsed, it was said the player gave up on it for tax reasons, while his agent blamed the Seagulls for changing their offer at the last minute.

The youngster was still expected to move this summer, with his representative stating that he’d end up in Europe.

The transfer situation has now hit a serious setback, after he picked up an injury at the weekend.

Enciso was involved in a challenge during the game against Olimpia, and he ended up in hospital with a serious facial injury. As reported by Versus (via Bolavip), there he learned he’d need surgery on his jaw.

Following the successful operation, the striker will now be sidelined for at least two months, and will miss the rest of the season with Libertad.

Speaking of his potential, Bolavip recalls that the player had ‘everything arranged’ to move to Brighton, and ‘details in the payment brought the operation down’.

The report claims the interest from European sides ‘did not disappear’, with ‘several candidates’ showing up to buy him this summer. However, they say the rumours must be ‘put on pause’ while the player recovers from his injury.
