Already a star at Valencia, Ferran Torres took everything he learned during his time in Spain and applied it immediately to what Pep Guardiola asked of him at Manchester City.
The forward, who has played both on the right wing but also as a striker at the Etihad, has been one of the great surprises this season, adapting very easily to his new surroundings.
His great performances in the EFL Cup and the Champions League earned him a new call up to Luis Enrique’s Spain squad this break, and while he didn’t find the back of the net against either Holland or Switzerland, he decimated Germany on Tuesday night.
Spain ran out as surprising 6-0 winners in the UEFA Nations League A group, with Torres picking up a hat trick in the process, showcasing just why Manchester City decided to spend £21m on him.
Not only did he impress pundits, managers, fans and teammates alike, but he also brought an enormous amount of pride to his family, with his grandfather unable to contain his emotions when speaking to Deportes Cuatro.
Wanting to open up about his grandson when asked how Ferran was, he broke down in tears midway through the interview, but still managed to say: “He’s an incredible kid… (starts crying) I can’t hold back the tears, it’s true. I’m very emotional. I was already crying last night.”
His grandmother, also present for the interview, added: “I saw him on the television and wanted to give him a hug.”
