On Wednesday morning, Portuguese newspaper Record published a front page which rocked the rumour mill, claiming Liverpool are offering €100m for the signing of Benfica star Darwin Nunez.
Coincidentally, one of the press conferences at the national team today was with Reds’ star Diogo Jota, so it was nearly inevitable that he’d be asked about the Anfield side signing the striker.
The Liverpool player did his best not to fuel the rumour, even though he admitted the quality he’s seen in Darwin when they faced Benfica in the Champions League this season.
“I don’t know, I’m focused on the national team. The market will move, I have no idea what the signings could be,” said Diogo Jota (via Mais Futebol).
“I had the opportunity to play against him and he’s a good player, but I can’t say anything else at the moment.”
Record’s story not only claimed that Liverpool are willing to spend big on Darwin Nunez, but also said that the player is keen on the transfer.
It was written that the player told Benfica he wants to join Jurgen Klopp’s side after being ‘fascinated’ with the atmosphere in Anfield in their Champions League clash.
