Jerry Mbakogu still isn’t ready to play for Carpi, which isn’t the most surprising news given he’s only recently returned from seeing a knee specialist in Barcelona, and been allowed to resume full training.

In Italy, towards the end of January and then into the beginning of February it was repeatedly reported Leeds United have a deal to sign the striker this summer.

Carpi’s general manager Matteo Scali was quoted as saying“There’s a gentleman agreement with Leeds for June.”

It’s not exactly brought enthusiasm among Leeds United fans, with Mbakogu not being prolific, even in Serie B, and suffering from knee issues.

But what can’t be doubted is the steady stream of praise the player gets from those at Carpi and the club’s local media.

Mbakogu is seen as crucially important for the Italian club and their play-off chances this season which is why they want him back as soon as possible, and that’s got to be a good thing.

Antonio Calabro, Carpi’s coach, was quoted by Calciomercato on Friday confirming Mbakogu won’t be fit for the Parma match: “Mbakogu and Nzola are still absent, like Capela. Jerry should recover for next week, we are waiting for him because he’s fundamental and we hope he will help us in the last 4-5 games.”

It’s still not the most exciting signing, but his coach rates him, the wider Serie B community seem to rate him, and so does the local media.

And they’re the ones who’ve actually watched him.
