Tottenham Hotspur defender Djed Spence will miss the rest of the season after picking up an injury.

That’s according to Rennes manager Bruno Génésio, who confirmed the news during today’s pre-match press conference. His comments are relayed by Ouest-France.

The Ligue 1 coach also stated the 22-year-old will return to Tottenham and work on his recovery with his parent club.

“He is out until the end of the season. It’s more than a sprain…. He will also return to Tottenham to take care of himself,” he said.

The right-back moved to Tottenham last summer, when Antonio Conte was in charge at the club. The Italian didn’t provide him with regular opportunities and he was restricted to 41 minutes from six games in the first half of this season.

A lack of game time and Pedro Porro’s arrival in January resulted in Spence joining Rennes on a loan deal in the same window.

The Spurs owned player has made 10 appearances for the French club and last featured for them in their 1-0 defeat to RC Lens on April 1st. Génésio has overlooked Spence for the last five matches and now he won’t be able to count on him for the upcoming fixtures.
