Bayer Leverkusen want to be able to sign Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka for less than Xhaka for less than €10m this summer.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who back up claims that the Switzerland star is ‘being pursued’ by Xabi Alonso’s side ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports this week have made it clear Leverkusen are eyeing up a surprise move for the Arsenal midfielder, with Alonso looking to add an experienced leader to his team.

At first it seemed unlikely Arsenal would be willing to sanction a deal given the important role Xhaka has played under Mikel Arteta this season, but that report was followed up by another claiming they are willing to let Xhaka leave this summer if they can find a replacement.

That opened up the door for Leverkusen to get their man, with it even explained that they felt he was available at a fair price that fit into their budget.

TMW now follow that up and say Arsenal currently value Xhaka at €10m but Leverkusen don’t like that figure and are, instead, ‘wanting a further discount’ before proceeding with their efforts to sign him.

Whether the Gunners are willing to bring that price down isn’t mentioned but it seems more negotiations are needed before this transfer, which looked more than possible after reports earlier this week, heads towards a conclusion.
