Chelsea are in the process of building a deal to sign Edwin Andersson, reports Swedish newspaper Expressen.
The 15 year old is ‘seen as one of Sweden’s greatest talents’ and it’s explained several clubs had been trying to get a deal done. The youngster trained at Manchester United in the autumn, but it now looks like Chelsea will be his destination.
Mikael Andersson, the player’s father, is quoted by Expressen as saying: “It is the dream of all boys to have such an opportunity.”
Currently with IFK Gothenburg, it’s reported that Andersson’s style of play has even been compared to Cristiano Ronaldo. On the comparison, the father said: “He’s pretty much like Callum Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea. When he was younger, he was a little more like Ronaldo. He mainly stays on the left.”
Given his age, the young ‘super-talent’ can’t move anywhere until he turns 16 on November 7th.
Andersson Sr continued: “There have been an incredible number of clubs from virtually all countries that have been interested in him, but he has chosen to go to Chelsea when it’s time. According to the rules he must be 16 first and then it is up to the clubs to agree.
“There’s still some details, but the day it’s time he has decided that it’ll be Chelsea.
“It is a chance you can take if the package is right. They have very good education and care about you as a human being, which one might not believe.”
Expressen seem pretty certain that this one will be happening.
It’s unclear how this would work with Chelsea’s transfer ban, although being 16 years of age, it’s training and development which will be the focus, rather than registering him straightaway.
