As big egos go, Ronald Koeman’s is right up there with the best of them. The Dutchman is never shy in expressing his opinion, as Everton fans found this week.
For those that don’t know, the Barcelona boss managed to rile up his former club by accusing them of living in the past and expecting too much as a result.
That, of course, didn’t stand well with the blue half of Merseyside, who were quick to call out their former manager, who, quite frankly they never liked in the first place.
Ask Everton fans what they think of Ronald Koeman, and you’ll get a short, sweet reply that more than likely couldn’t be played before the 9pm watershed.
To say he’s disliked at Goodison Park would be an understatement but it seems they may have an ally in that regard. Step forward, Granada.
If you’re unaware, they took on Barcelona in the Copa del Rey recently and, in a thrilling game, the Catalan giants came out on top.
This saw Koeman celebrating wildly on the touchlines, according to Cuatro, who say that he ‘lived very intensely’ during the game and ‘angrily celebrated his goals’ when they went in.
Indeed at one point, he headed into the stands to celebrate with the players, an ‘unsporting attitude’ that ‘aroused anger’ in Granada’s substitutes.
One of those was striker Roberto Soldado, who was heard shouting from the stands ‘he’s a clown, he’s a clown’ at the Dutchman, while later his team’s coaching staff ended up clashing on the touchline.
Koeman, seemingly unperturbed, celebrated as he wished but then showed his distinct lack of awareness after the match with comments that are likely to infuriate Barcelona fans too.
“Winning the championship, cup or Champions League, I don’t think so, you have to be realistic in that sense,” he said.
“But I have always believed in the team, we have improved quite a few things, and above all, I highlight the character, it is a giant step for us.
“Winning the cup this season would be very good with everything we have.”
All in all, it’s been a week in which the Dutchman has shown himself up on more than one occasion, and we’re sure if Everton fans were to start up a club of his enemies, they may find themselves with plenty of members from Granada and a few from Barcelona too.
