West Ham United are working on signing a new striker in the winter market and have a few names on their list.

Ajax’s Brian Brobbey is on West Ham’s agenda and former Tottenham Hotspur star Rafael van der Vaart has backed him to succeed if he joins the Premier League side.

Van der Vaart discussed the Hammers’ interest in the 22-year-old for Studio Voetbal and Soccer News have relayed his comments.

On Friday, De Telegraaf stated the striker is open to a move to the London club as they are willing to offer him a deal worth around €100,000 per week.

A day later, Brobbey’s agent confirmed to Viaplay that his client made a trip to London, without specifying if it was to negotiate a deal with West Ham.

The Netherlands international managed 22 goals and 12 assists from 43 matches last season, while he has three goals and seven assists from 29 games this season.

Van der Vaart has urged the Eredivisie side to sanction a move if West Ham were to offer €35m for his compatriot. He believes Brobbey can succeed with Graham Potter’s side.

“I believe in this guy so much, but somehow it just doesn’t work out. I don’t know why,” he said.

“But if someone pays that amount [€35m] and he can go to West Ham, then I would let him go immediately. But I’ll tell you, if he goes there, he will be a sensation. Trust me, 100%.”

It needs to be seen whether West Ham will make a convincing offer in the coming days for Brobbey.
