Paul Pogba is no longer a regular starter at Manchester United and Didier Deschamps admitted his compatriot “cannot be happy” with his current situation at Old Trafford.
The midfielder started for France in their 2-0 friendly defeat to Finland, and having played for 57 minutes, the media in his country weren’t pleased with his display.
Portugal host the World Cup winners in the UEFA Nations League clash today and in his pre-match press conference, Deschamps stated the 27-year-old is mentally impacted by problems at United.
L’Equipe claims the former Juventus star is ‘having a difficult time’ and even though his current situation isn’t worrying, Pogba’s shortcomings are ‘constant lately’ with United and Les Bleus.
The newspaper talks about the player regularly losing his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting lineup and also his performance against Finland. When Pogba at his best, he ‘ensures simple and creative transitions’.
When he’s not at his best, both physically and mentally, L’Equipe states ‘he slows everything down, carries the ball too much. And the technical waste found in Saint-Denis [against Finland] does not really resemble him’.
The report points out the issues Pogba has when he’s not in the right shape, both physically and mentally.
France’s clash against Portugal on Saturday will give the United player an opportunity to silent his detractors, at least for the time being.
