Christian Eriksen’s contract at Tottenham Hotspur expires after this season and there’s been endless rumours about where he could end up.
The common theme in the majority of the reports has been the Denmark international’s reluctance to sign an extension with Spurs.
Eriksen hasn’t been featuring regularly for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, making only eight starts in all competitions. He was left out of the starting XI in Spurs’ last two fixtures.
He is currently with the national team for the last international break of this year and spoke to the local media on Monday. BT were quick to put two and two together as they believe his contract situation is why the Dane isn’t playing regularly at the club.
Responding to that, Eriksen said: “I feel 100 percent that Tottenham has complete confidence in me. There is not that big a difference, except that I play a little less this year.
“I don’t feel there is a connection between my contract situation and the fact that I haven’t played as many matches.”
Eriksen wanted to leave his current employer in the summer and made his decision public in June. However, he failed to find a new club in the last window, forcing him to continue with the English side.
He’s struggled this season and suggested poor decision making for his slump.
“I might take a little more chance than certain other positions on the pitch. Of course, there are mistakes, and the decisions taken must also be carried out correctly. There may have been a little bit missing,” the Dane stressed.
“I’ve been in the right situations. I just haven’t taken the right decisions. It’s a bit about the sharpness that is missing. This is something I have to work on myself.”
The 27 year old has scored two goals and managed one assist for Tottenham in all competitions this season. He insists his club situation shouldn’t have an impact when it comes to Denmark’s upcoming fixtures.
“The national team is something else to play for than the club team. They are two very different things. So the drop I may have got in the club, which is not a big drop, should not matter,” he stressed.
