Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has shared his delight at how things are going at the club and believes the Premier League is getting the best out of him.
The Uruguayan midfielder joined Tottenham in the January transfer window, signing in a £17.1m deal from Juventus.
He had struggled to establish himself as a key man at the Italian club during his five years there but has had no such problem at Spurs, where he is already a regular in Antonio Conte’s midfield.
The Italian boss had been on the hunt for a new midfielder ever since arriving at the club and appears to have got what he needed in Bentancur, who has been in the Tottenham starting 11 in seven of his eight Premier League games to date.
That’s far more regularity than he was enjoying at Juventus, something the 24-year-old is more than happy about.
“(I’m) very happy and getting minutes,” ESPN Argentina report him saying.
“It’s the best league at the moment. I’m very happy to play for Tottenham in that league and to be taking this opportunity. (It) is going to help me a lot to keep improving.”
Bentancur is accustomed to playing with big-name stars from his time at Juventus, having played alongside the likes of Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin.
The biggest name at Tottenham is undoubtedly Harry Kane, who has established himself as one of the best forwards in Europe over the past few years.
This season he has struggled for his best form but is finding his feet again under Conte, with 15 goals and five assists to his name since the Italian took charge.
Those numbers are more like the norm for the England star, and Bentancur is very much impressed by his Spurs teammate.
Asked which player had ‘surprised’ him the most, the midfielder picked Kane, and said: “Technically and physically, he is an incredible player, very complete; it is an honour and a pleasure to have him as a team-mate.”
