Nico Williams is happy at Athletic Bilbao and likely to stay there rather than move elsewhere, with Aston Villa lurking for a potential deal.

That’s according to his brother, Iñaki Williams, who has insisted that his sibling is likely to sign a new deal with the Spanish club as soon as possible.

Williams junior has been heavily linked with a move away from Athletic over the last few months as his contract at the club is due to expire at the end of the season.

Several clubs are eyeing him up as a result, either on a free next summer or on a pre-contract agreement in the January transfer window.

Aston Villa are one of the sides who are keen on him, having already tried to sign him on two separate occasions since Unai Emery arrived at Villa Park last year.

Indeed, a report today stated that Williams had been ‘tempted’ by the move to Aston Villa as he assesses his future and where it may lie.

For his brother, though, there is no concern, and he believes his sibling will be staying where he is for the time being.

“Those things are done when both parties are happy and content, and I know that my brother is happy in Bilbao,” he said.

“We are fulfilling my parents’ dream, whatever has to be, will soon be. We are happy at home, and we hope so.

“We are from here and we have grown up in Athletic, which is the club that has formed us and has given us the opportunity to fulfil our dreams.”
