During the winter transfer window, Chelsea were linked with so many strikers that it turned into a farce.
Peter Crouch even got a mention and it seemed like Chelsea were scraping around for a forward on the cheap. They just had to be big, a striker, and with two legs which just about worked, scoring goals regularly was optional.
Then came Edin Dzeko and it looked like a really good idea. The former Manchester City player has been doing well at AS Roma, and was a much more exciting target than the rest.
In Italy there were repeated claims of a deal being agreed and Dzeko moving to Chelsea just being a matter of time. But the player himself pulled away from a deal, preferring to stay in Italy.
That doesn’t look a bad decision now, because Roma are through to the Champions League semis after an amazing night against Barcelona.
Dzeko’s agent has been speaking to TMW and was asked about the Chelsea transfer situation, and for an opinion on how it panned out.
Irfan Redzepagic is quoted as saying: “Let’s say that his decision has benefited everyone: Roma, its fans and Edin himself, so we are happy.”
Everyone is thrilled, except maybe Chelsea, who really should have got this one over the line.
