Pierre-Michel Lasogga to Leeds United has been far more dramatic than it really needed to be and it seems the relationship between Leeds United and Hamburg isn’t the best.
First, there was great big fanfare in Germany when Bild and others announced the deal had hit a snag. Bild, being Europe’s biggest selling tabloid, hyped the situation up as much as possible, but there’s genuinely been a problem even without the hype.
It was accepted in Germany that Hamburg had made a mistake, by sending the paperwork to Leeds United incorrectly or not in full, and it was claimed Lasogga would have to fly back to England to sort it out.
Lasogga obviously thought everything was done and had travelled home to Germany to tie up loose ends before moving to Yorkshire.
Hamburg obviously didn’t like being blamed, and then there were a rash of reports in Germany saying it’s actually Leeds United’s fault, the Championship club missed out some formality in proceedings.
Now HSV have released a statement to the Hamburger Morgenpost: “There’s no breakdown, we expect the completion during the day.”
Maybe Hamburg would be better off speaking exclusively to Leeds United, rather than via the media.
