Just after the window closed, Portuguese newspaper O Jogo reported that Manchester City were in contact regarding signing Alejandro Grimaldo from Benfica.
The story said Pep Guardiola had seen the player grow at his former club Barcelona and now would be learning the transfer conditions of the left-back as City had a few conversations with his agent.
Grimaldo has been having an impressive period since then. He barely started games last season, but now is the number one for the position and there was a big article about him in Monday’s edition of O Jogo.
The newspaper took quotes from the former Barcelona player Sergi Barjuan to comment on him, and the headline takes his words to say “he’ll prove Barcelona made a mistake”.
Manchester City’s interest is highlighted in the story, and O Jogo claims that Pep Guardiola’s side are one of the ‘most interested’ of a few European clubs.
Grimaldo signed for Benfica in January, having come through Barcelona’s La Masia system. According to O Jogo, the Catalan club have a right to a percentage of any future sale.
