Groin pain could lead to surgery, which would leave Aston Villa furious this summer

 

Carles Gil is going through the pain barrier. Suffering with a groin issue, the Aston Villa owned player shouldn’t be taking to the field, however he’s putting Deportivo La Coruna first and has declared himself fit to face Osasuna at lunchtime on Sunday.

Such is the player’s current physical condition, it’s not certain he will play, but he’s pushing himself forward and is keen to take part. Gil is hopeful Deportivo La Coruna buy him permanently from Aston Villa, but that’s far away from being a foregone conclusion.

Depor aren’t exactly blessed with a great cash-flow and Gil hasn’t done enough this season to warrant them breaking the bank. A return to Aston Villa, and meeting up with Steve Bruce, is very much a possibility.

Given that, Aston Villa will be quite concerned with comments from La Voz de Galicia. The local newspaper say Gil’s groin injury is so bad he may require surgery.

If Depor are doubtful about keeping Gil, which they have been for some time, then pushing him to these physical limits is surely of concern to Aston Villa.

The last thing Steve Bruce and the Championship club will want is Carles Gil arriving needing an operation, meaning Deportivo La Coruna lose all interest, and Aston Villa have to look to rebuild the player’s career again.
