Steven Bergwijn hasn’t been regularly used by manager Jose Mourinho this season. Having arrived from PSV in the last winter transfer market, the Dutchman got off to a good start.
That didn’t continue and he hasn’t even been in Mourinho’s squad for four of the past five Premier League matches. This international break was a chance for the Dutchman to get some minutes on the pitch and try and prove he deserves more chances at Spurs.
Unfortunately for Bergwijn, he left the Oranje camp shortly after arriving, with it first being reported he’d been examined by the country’s medical team and deemed not fit enough.
There was no further information, leading to suggestions from fans that it could be related to the player’s general conditioning. Now Tuesday’s edition of De Telegraaf brings some clarity to the situation.
Bergwijn has ‘groin complaints’ according to the Dutch newspaper, with that issue seemingly serious enough to count out the entire international break.
De Telegraaf give no information relating to recovery time.
