According to Greek website Sdna, Panathinaikos are showing an interest in Sheffield Wednesday forward Steven Fletcher.
It’s claimed Panathinaikos’ technical director Nikos Dabizas is currently in England to hold talks with Sheffield Wednesday, as he’s hoping he can get an agreement with the English club for the Scotland international.
Fletcher still has two years left on his current Sheffield Wednesday contract but the former Newcastle United defender is hoping he can bring the 31-year old to Athens.
Panathinaikos are currently in financial trouble yet the club are looking to sign an experienced forward after they failed to replace Swedish international Marcus Berg last season.
The Scot already has experience of playing abroad following his loan spell with French side Marseille during the 2015/16 season.
Fletcher signed for Sheffield Wednesday in 2016 but played just nine league games for the Championship side last season.
With two years left on his contract the South Yorkshire club aren’t under pressure to sell the former Sunderland player but may be tempted by a decent offer.
