Last month, Anthony Martial admitted that a lack of regular minutes with Manchester United in the first half of the season convinced him to “find a new atmosphere” and a “new club” in January.
His desire to leave the Red Devils in the winter market took shape towards the end of the window, when he sealed a loan move to Sevilla. The forward was wanted by several clubs, but he decided to join the La Liga side on a temporary deal until the end of the season.
According to Diario de Sevilla, the Spanish club paid around €6m to United in bring the former AS Monaco man to Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
The 26-year-old’s decision to move to Seville hasn’t worked out well for the two parties, especially given the efforts put in by their sporting director, Monchi, to carry out the transfer.
He’s managed a goal and an assist from nine matches in all competitions. Although Martial failed to impress in the last five league ties, Julen Lopetegui ‘maintained his confidence’ and handed him another start against Barcelona. However, the France international failed to impress again.
Detailing Martial’s displays, the outlet stated: ‘[He] disappointed again by his misguided reading of the attacks, his lukewarmness in the clashes and disputes with the Barcelona fans, and his propensity to claim fouls without success.’
Describing Martial’s loan deal, Diario de Sevilla labels it Sevilla’s ‘great winter fiasco’ as his situation has now gone from bad to worse.
