Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has spoken to the Turkish media about Mohamed Elneny.
The Egyptian midfielder recently joined Besiktas on a season-long loan deal from the Gunners and Wenger believes he could be a great addition to the Super Lig club’s squad.
Asist Analiz have reported comments the Frenchman made when asked by Bein Sports Turkey about the Arsenal midfielder: “First and foremost, Elneny is a modern day midfielder. He will work hard for the team. He has a great technique. His physical attributes are also very important. His passes are also very direct and will help the team in attacking areas.”
Wenger signed Elneny from Swiss side Basel in 2016 for a fee in the region of €12.5m, and the 27 year old went on to make 89 appearances for the London club before his loan move to Turkey this summer.
Now at Besiktas, the Egypt international will need to prove himself once again as he looks to rediscover the form he showed whilst playing for Basel.
It’s likely he’ll get more games with the Istanbul club after being frozen out at Arsenal in the past 14 months. At the weekend the player made his debut for the Black Eagles, starting the game against Ümraniyespor.
Elneny is under contract at the Emirates until June 2023.
