While most clubs cannot sign players until the summer now that the January transfer window is over for the large majority of Europe, that isn’t the case in Poland.
Ekstraklasa clubs can still bring in reinforcements if they find teams willing to part ways with players, which is why Legia Warsaw reportedly have been making a move for West Bromwich Albion’s Kamil Grosicki.
The ageing winger has barely played under either Slaven Bilic or Sam Allardyce at the Hawthorns, and with the player reportedly turning down moves to the likes of Germany and Turkey, it appears he’s aiming for a return to his home country.
The move hasn’t happened yet due to financial issues, which are mostly down Grosicki’s salary, but if the two parties do reach an agreement and Legia can find the funds to make it happen, most in Poland would welcome it with open arms.
Take former Legia Warsaw player Jacek Kacprzak, who told x-news, relayed by Gol24: “It would be a win-win, both for Kamil and the club. For Kamil, in the context of the national team and the upcoming Euros, he has to play somewhere because he’s missing game time. On the other hand, Legia, as we can see, has a problem in attack”.
This is echoed by journalist Cezary Kowalski, relayed by Polsatsport: “I think that Kamil Grosicki would be useful to Legia Warsaw. I know that the budget will probably not stick together and there is no guarantee that Legia will be successful with Grosicki, but looking not only at the money and from a fan’s perspective, I think that it would be a great move.
“He knows Legia very well, he was there before and the fans love him because he’s a Poland international. Kamil himself knows that he would play at the Euros because of such a return, which, in his current situation, is very doubtful”.
