Pedro Gonçalves has done it again at the weekend. With a brace scored against Marítimo on Friday night, the player guaranteed Sporting’s 2-0 win which kept the Lions on top of the Portuguese table.

The new Lions’ star currently has 14 goals and two assists in 15 league matches for the club, and according to Record, there are already plans for them to resist transfer market threats.

Liverpool are once again named as one of the sides who’ve been interested in Pote. It’s said the Reds chased the right-winger in the January transfer window, making ‘informal’ contacts, and continue to be ‘very attentive’.

Sporting, however, now want to have him in the Champions League next season. So just like in January, when they didn’t open talks for his transfer, they’ll keep that door closed.

Of course there’s still a way to sign Pote, which is by triggering his release clause.

That’s currently €60m.

Another reason why Sporting shouldn’t give away any discounts is that they’re only getting half the fee. When signing him in a €6.5m deal from Famalicão last summer, they let his former club keep 50% of a future sale. Now the Lisbon side are willing to renegotiate that percentage, but that hasn’t happened yet.

Pote’s stats in his first season for Sporting even make it look like €60m wouldn’t be exaggerated, especially for big clubs like Liverpool.
