Ezequiel Schelotto may be happy to join Brighton & Hove Albion, but he’s certainly not enjoying the way he was forced to leave Sporting.
The player had been removed from the first team squad by manager Jorge Jesus at the start of the season, and that’s why he needed a move out of the club so badly.
Schelotto spoke to Portuguese newspaper O Jogo, and despite not making public his problems with Jesus, he made sure to tell Sporting fans he didn’t want to leave this way.
Speaking of the move to Brighton, the player was asked if the time he spent away from the first team squad could harm his physical condition for the start of his Premier League career.
“I don’t think the stop harms my integration at Brighton. I trained hard on my own, although sometimes it was mentally complicated. I missed being with the group.
“I ended up choosing Brighton for the project. They were promoted from the second division and if they keep the ideas of the last year they may be the surprise of the season. But first it’s time to think about permanence (getting in the team) and then we’ll see the rest.”
On how the chance to join Brighton showed up, Schelotto said: “My representative showed me the proposal, and it seduced me because we are talking about the best league in the world and it’s a great challenge for my career. I’m starting to train soon and can’t wait to make my Premier League debut.”
The Argentine right-back signed a three-year deal with Brighton, who paid €3m for the transfer.
