Ilan Meslier’s hopes of making it into the senior squad for France may have been handed a boost as the Leeds United man had been ‘pre-selected’ by Didier Deschamps for this international break.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who cover him and Lucas Chevalier today and their potential future in the France set up.

The newspaper explains that the current hierarchy for Les Blues seems to be difficult to shake up as Mike Maignan in shining with AC Milan, Brice Samba has been good for Lens and Alphonse Areola is having a revival at West Ham.

That’s not stopped the younger prospects, namely Leeds keeper Meslier and Chevalier, from ‘trying to show up’ and make their case.

They’ve been working for months to try and prove themselves, with Meslier electing to stay at Leeds and enjoying a solid start to the season in the Championship.

That’s not gone unnoticed and of the younger players pushing through, he and Chevalier are the among the closest to claiming a place in the A team.

Indeed, L’Equipe say that Deschamps had them in his pre-selection for this international break and while they didn’t make the final cut, it does mean they are a step ahead of the competition.
