With all the troubles currently brewing at Juventus, rumours of a Chelsea bid for Federico Chiesa have been growing stronger over the past week.
The Serie A side have been struggling on the pitch, most recently being surprised by Atalanta at home, and have been under investigation off it with regards to some old deals that are being looked at.
Still, the general consensus, dating back to the summer after the Euros, is that Chelsea are keen on the player, and several articles about a huge bid potentially being made have been doing the rounds.
For example, Friday saw a report stating that a ‘super offer’ from the Blues for the Italian would be ‘very tempting’, and Wednesday claimed a willingness to spend a ‘monster’ amount of money on the forward.
The bad news in all this is that he’s currently injured, unlikely to play again before the New Year, but regardless of all this, Juventus won’t sell in January and Chelsea will probably wait until the second half of the season to make their move.
Gazzetta dello Sport hint at this, explaining that a failure to qualify for the Champions League would be damaging for the Serie A side, and ‘many more doubts’ would be cast on the futures of both Matthijs De Ligt and Chiesa in Turin.
In fact, the latter is ‘liked by many European teams, especially English’, with the rumours amplified by the fact he and Max Allegri don’t seem to be the best of friends.
That’s why ‘there is a good chance that an offer for Chiesa will arrive from England in the spring’, and while Chelsea aren’t named specifically, it’s quite clear who Gazzetta dello Sport are hinting at with that line following all the rumours from the past week.
The question is: ‘Will Juve know and want to resist the temptation?’
