Now Marseille are getting to the point of the summer transfer window when they’ve sold most of their good players, they really need to start bringing some footballers in.
The squad has been absolutely decimated in recent seasons as teams have gone to Marseille shopping for good buys at a club which seems continually under a financial cloud.
In turn, Marseille have been having a look around to see where they can prey. And it would appear their eyes have become firmly fixed upon Aston Villa. Whilst the Midlands club aren’t in quite the same financial hole as Marseille, they have just been relegated and therefore outgoings are expected.
Idrissa Gueye, Carlos Sanchez and Jordan Veretout have all been targeted at Aston Villa. The first doesn’t want to take up the offer, whereas things have progressed a little on Sanchez, although not as quickly as Marseille would have hoped.
Local newspaper La Provence says a source close to the potential deal has told them: “It’s going forward, but it’s complicated.”
Veretout would be a loan and a deal shouldn’t be too hard to reach, especially if the Frenchman is insistent.
