Pierre-Michel Lasogga always had the capacity to be an Elland Road hero. But, in truth, there was also the chance he’d be a great big flop, following a difficult period at Hamburg.

Getting off to a good start was a sure way to go, with Lasogga being an emotional creature who will be happy to carry fans on his back, but who can feel the pressure if things don’t go well.

Two goals in a dream debut is the best way to go about things, and the impact in Germany can’t be overstated. Indeed, Lasogga’s Leeds United joy is the main sport story for Hamburger Morgenpost on Monday.

Lasogga gets the front page of the sport section, with the headline ‘Der Baby-Bomber’. Inside, the German newspaper details how Lasogga celebrated his win. A gin and tonic at San Carlo, a big steak, and then to bed feeling on top of the world.

The striker is expected to become a father this week, and whilst that could see him miss a game, it all adds to a great feeling around Elland Road.

Where once everything that could go wrong did, now it’s all optimism both on and off the pitch.

Lasogga spoke to Bild after his heroics, and the German newspaper quote him as saying: “I am infinitely grateful and happy. I don’t look back because I can’t change it anymore. The trust and appreciation of the people here is going well. The atmosphere is fantastic, so I get goose bumps.”
