It was inevitable that not long after David Wagner was officially announced as Schalke’s new manager, he’d be linked with signing players from Huddersfield Town.
That was regardless of whether there’d be any truth in it, it’s just one of those rumours which was always going to happen.
Germany newspaper Bild have obliged on Tuesday, and say Wagner is also going for a player at Watford, something which has already been touched upon.
The Huddersfield duo are, unsurprisingly, Jonas Lössl and Zanka.
Bild believe the pair would be cheap because of the club’s relegation to the Championship. Zanka has a contract lasting until June 2020, and Lössl is a free agent once his contract expires at the end of June.
Both have spoken about leaving the club whilst away on international duty this season. These claims appear to be presented as more than they actually are, so it’s worth waiting to see if there’s any further development.
Over at Watford, it’s Dodi Lukebakio who is of interest. He’s had a good, although up and down, season on loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf.
