David Wagner to West Brom could be concluded very quickly, with claims from Germany suggesting an announcement is likely before the end of this week.
Sky Deutschland report, according to their own information, that Wagner is ‘about to be appointed’ as West Brom head coach. They explain that should the final negotiations go smoothly then the German could be in place within the next 48 hours.
The slant of the article very much makes it sound like this appointment is simply a matter of time, and there’s no sign of any issues in the talks. Given the information is almost certainly coming from someone connected to Wagner, it’s good news for those West Brom fans who’d welcome him at the club.
Having built a reputation as a coach with Borussia Dortmund, Wagner was given a position with Huddersfield Town in the Championship. He took them to the Premier League and after keeping them in the top flight for a season, things fell apart.
Having left Huddersfield in 2019, Wagner was given the big Schalke job but failed to make a positive impact, being shown the door in September 2020.
