Leon Goretzka to Liverpool has been talked up over the past few days, with Jurgen Klopp’s side now considered one of the frontrunners to sign the midfielder.
With a Schalke contract expiring in June, an exit has been thought likely for some time, even if there were suggestions recently that he may reconsider and stay for a while longer.
Bild have had a look at Liverpool’s interest, and fired a warning to Goretzka. The German newspaper explain: ‘Great fans, great money and with Klopp also a great coach – so there are some good reasons to go to Liverpool.
‘Anyone who chooses Liverpool, however, decides against winning an important title for the foreseeable future.’
Ouch.
Liverpool’s lack of a major trophy win in recent years is clearly well known in Germany, and the Bild article suggests it’s not thought that’s going to change quickly.
That could harm Goretzka’s career if he decides to move to Liverpool, according to Bild, with the newspaper adding: ‘He should keep in mind that you can only become a big player if you have a big title.’
Double ouch.
