Jean-Philippe Gbamin has been a hot topic over the last 48 hours with a move to Everton seemingly close to completion.
Earlier today Sky Germany reported that Everton and Mainz had agreed on a fee for the midfielder and he could undergo a medical tomorrow ahead of the move.
That was further followed up by Soccer Link, who backed up the claims of a €30m deal with bonuses and even suggested that the agreement could be concluded today as opposed to tomorrow.
Bild have now covered the story, and they say suggest things aren’t as finalised as others are suggesting. According to them, Mainz are denying that any deal is in place.
The newspaper state that there were negotiations at the Opoel Cup last week during which Everton offered €25m. Mainz rejected that and wanted €35m, but Everton indicated they were willing to do a deal at €30m with bonuses instead.
That’s the fee other outlets are stating as the selling price, but Bild suggest that isn’t the case, as Mainz director Rouven Schröder is known as a man who will eke out as much from a deal as possible.
In fact, they state he is ‘gambling for millions’ and playing poker with Everton, suggesting this deal is not as close to completion as it may have seemed.
