Brighton & Hove Albion striker João Pedro seems quite glad of having joined the club this summer.

Following a €34m move from Watford, the Brazilian had a good start with the Seagulls, with four goals scored in six appearances so far.

João Pedro this week spoke to Globo Esporte, and had a lot to say about his transfer to Brighton. It started with him recalling how Roberto De Zerbi convinced him to join the Seagulls.

“When Brighton made the offer, I had a chat with De Zerbi, who gave me a lot of confidence and I accepted the challenge of coming here. We’ve had a great start to the season. He usually changes the team a lot and the team keeps winning games, playing well, so I think there’s a lot to come this season,” João Pedro told Globo Esporte.

João Pedro continued to highlight the work done by De Zerbi, claiming he’s been capable of improving the team’s mentality.

“Brighton have been growing in recent years, they’re putting together a competitive team. What De Zerbi tells us is to play thinking about winning everything, thinking like we’re the big boys. We have to go in like that and play our football.”

The striker then claimed he’s been able to play in multiple positions, and that’s something he’s actually been proud of.

“In training I work in three positions. As a second striker, as a centre-forward and also as a winger. It’s hard for me to say one position. It’s important for me to play other positions, because being a versatile player makes it easier to be on the pitch and I always want to be playing. I can’t say ‘this is my position’, because nowadays I can play three positions with ease.”

The Brazilian talked about his goal against Manchester United this season, explaining how much that meant to him.

“Going into an important game like against Manchester United and scoring is the dream of any boy who watches the Premier League, and it was my dream too. And today I’m here being able to play, be happy, play against big clubs, score goals against big clubs.”

Since his arrival at Brighton, João Pedro scored against Luton Town, Manchester United and now had a brace in their Europa League debut against AEK Athens, despite the Seagulls’ 3-2 loss.

The striker has been part of Brazil’s U-23, and hopes his time at Brighton will help him get a chance in the first team.
