Gaston Ramirez handing in a transfer request at Middlesbrough underlined earlier reports from Italy that he’d agreed a deal in principle to sign for Leicester City.
The unrest was really no surprise given that Ramirez has been the subject of strange transfer claims throughout his career, the same goes for his compatriot Abel Hernandez.
The claims almost always originate in Italy, and the Ramirez to Leicester City story was launched by Gazzetta dello Sport earlier on in the window. Abel Hernandez claims also usually arise in the Italian media, despite him not being Italian or currently playing in the country.

Italy’s media probably have closer connections to football agents than anywhere else, so when something like the Ramirez claim is pushed, the assumption is it’s come from the player’s camp.
But over the past few days there’s been very few fresh claims from Italy. There’s the assumption that the player could swap Middlesbrough for Leicester, but there’s nothing meaty yet.
The English media have been following up with all kinds of claims, but Italy is the place to look for updates which follow on from the original story… and there’s nothing of note.
That could very quickly change, and we’ll keep an eye on the situation, but for right now it’s gone quiet.
