Earlier on Monday we covered claims from Spain that Leeds United have agreed a deal to sign Alfonso Pedraza from Villarreal.

El Periodico Mediterraneo explained that Leeds United would take Pedraza on loan for the rest of the season and would have a clause meaning the deal would be made permanent for €10m if Premier League promotion is achieved.

That’s a bigger fee than Leeds United would usually pay, but given it’s on the condition of promotion, it’s not surprising because the financial situation would be very different indeed.

Pedraza is currently on loan at CD Lugo in the Spanish second division, and the claims stated Villarreal would pay them €300k compensation to cut the loan short.

Since then we’ve been checking for updates and El Progreso have been digging too.

El Progresso is a Galicia newspaper, local to Lugo. They say sources they’ve contacted haven’t been able to get club confirmation but have said Pedraza to Leeds United is a ‘real and feasible possibility’ before the window closes.
