Jan Bednarek has been key for Southampton recently, receiving praise from both fans of the club and manager Ralph Hasenhüttl.
Should the Saints manage to swerve away from relegation then the Polish defender will have been a key part of their efforts in the second half of the season.
Before Hasenhüttl had taken over, Bednarek was hardly used by Mark Hughes. More often than not he didn’t even make Southampton’s match day squad, so the turnaround has been huge for the 22 year old.
When he was ostracised under Hughes there were obviously rumours about a potential departure. The player had joined from Lech Poznan in July 2017 and just wasnt getting the game time he felt he needed and was up to.
Last season he made just five Premier League appearances.
But now the gamble of staying at, and initially moving to, Southampton is paying off, and that’s also good for Poland.
The country’s national manager Jerzy Brzęczek took time out to visit Bednarek when things weren’t going so well to keep his spirits up and is quoted by Poland’s Interia as saying: “We were consistently had him in the frame and now we can see that the gamble has paid off.”
Now the only prospect of a transfer would be if Southampton are relegated and their player receives attention from elsewhere.
