Whilst it can often be misleading to say the majority of a club’s fanbase are for or against something, it’s probably not dangerous to say Everton fans are pretty much united against Rafa Benitez arriving at their club this summer.
Following the surprise departure of Carlo Ancelotti, who returned to Real Madrid, the Premier League club are on the search for a replacement. That search is taking longer than many expected, and Benitez is the latest man considered to be the favourite.
The Spaniard’s past with Liverpool is one of the reasons fans are against it, however, it would be wrong to put it solely down to that. Some simply believe there are better candidates available right now, and that Everton should be going for those.
Marcus Danielson knows Benitez well, having worked with him at Dalian Professional in China. He’s currently with the Sweden national squad at Euro 2020, and has been asked what he feels about the manager potentially taking over at Goodison Park.
Fotbollskanalen quote him saying: “I do not know if he will go there, but it would be fun for him if it happens.”
Danielson was then thrown a cheeky question which suggested he could team up with Benitez at Everton, to which the defender said: “What players he will recruit in such cases, I do not know.”
The 32-year-old’s contract with Dalian expires after next season, and Everton fans probably wouldn’t be enthused by the signing.
