On July 25th, Mundo Deportivo reported Fulham are ‘willing to fight’ for Espanyol’s David Lopez, while the La Liga outfit have offered a new deal to the Spaniard.

The same newspaper now claims the Catalan club will make a great effort to retain the 28-year-old at the club, who is a key part of Rubi’s project, both on and off the pitch. They also mention about making a proposal to the Barcelona-born player’s agent.

Espanyol are awaiting a response from Lopez, who is still tempted by Fulham’s offer as they are ready to triple his wages.

The possibility of a counter offer from the English club is still ‘not ruled out’.

There is willingness from both parties to find an agreement in a short period of time.

A renewal now feels closer than it did at the beginning of the week and there’s every chance Fulham have been somewhat used in this process, but the London club will be aware how these things work.
