Set to play KV Mechelen in their preseason, VfL Wolfsburg have departed for Belgium on Friday, according to Kicker, but have left Kevin Mbabu behind.
The Switzerland international has been a target for Fulham for a few weeks now, with reports talks between the two sides were a bit difficult of late.
Kicker state Mbabu ‘can leave the club’, but his potential departure is ‘still dragging on’ despite Marco Silva’s side reportedly already agreeing a ‘€6m transfer fee with VfL’.
The problems lie ‘with the player, who is being tugged at by various consultants’, as he ‘is said to be checking or hoping for other options from the Premier League’ besides Fulham.
That makes some sense, in that the Craven Cottage residents have only just been promoted and could very well find themselves in a relegation battle all season, which Mbabu seems keen to avoid.
However, if Wolfsburg no longer want him and no one else comes knocking, he might have to end up choosing Fulham by default.
