Fulham defender Denis Odoi has told the Belgian media AA Gent wanted to sign him last summer, but he’s glad he remained at Craven Cottage.
Odoi signed for Fulham in 2016 from Lokeren.
Speaking to HLN, the Fulham player was asked about the interest from Gent: “I was allowed to leave the club for a certain amount, but the chairman’s son was concerned. He works a lot with statistics, and mine were too good. As compensation, they improved my contract. In retrospect, I’m glad I stayed even though Gent were interested.”
Odoi has been a key player for Fulham this season as the club look to get promotion back to the Premier League. The 29 year old has started 28 league games in this campaign, and the fullback has recently been deployed as a central defender.
The West London club are just one point below the automatic promotion places after already guaranteeing at least a spot in the play offs.
With second placed Cardiff City facing a tricky away trip to Hull City and Fulham facing already relegated Sunderland at Craven Cottage there could be an opportunity to overtake the Welsh club this weekend.
