It may have taken a while for Carlos Vinícius to score his first goal for Fulham. But that definitely came in a memorable time for him.

The Brazilian striker scored Fulham’s winner in the 2-1 victory against Chelsea, and had a word with his home country’s press after the match.

Interviewed by ESPN Brasil’s João Castelo-Branco, Carlos Vinícius talked about the goal drought he had been in, claiming he was ‘bothered’ for not having scored for Fulham yet.

“Very happy to contribute to the team, to the fans, with this first goal of mine here at Fulham,” the striker told ESPN Brasil.

“I’m very happy and it came on time. I had been working, searching, for some time. I was already a little bothered. Because I confess that I’m not one to stay that long without scoring a goal, I was already bothered. And it came at just the right time. A very, very important victory for us and our fans.”

The striker also thanked all people who have been patient with him since his arrival at the club.

“Yes, emotional because, as I said, I had been working hard for this goal. And the team had the patience. The manager had this patience, the supporters had this patience. So it was really to celebrate a lot and with a victory like that, in a derby, very important for us.”

Fulham spent €5m to sign Carlos Vinícius from Benfica last summer. This was his 12th appearance for the club, and probably a good reason why he was bothered for not having scored any goals so far.

The striker had some previously Premier League experience from having played for Tottenham Hotspur a couple of seasons ago.

Despite not being bought by the north London side and struggling a little with the competition from Harry Kane, he had decent numbers there, with ten goals and three assists in 22 appearances.
