On Thursday, L’Equipe reported Nice centre-back Maxime Le Marchand was being targeted by Fiorentina, which got local newspaper Nice-Matin to do a bit of digging, eventually confirming the information from their counterparts.
However, it appears that along the way, they also found out that Fulham, in dire need of a centre-back for next season, are also interested in the 28-year-old.
Featuring 41 times for the Ligue 1 club last year, Le Marchand spent a good chunk of that time as a left-back, helping out the club as best he could following Christophe Jallet’s mid-season injury.
The former Le Havre defender sees his future in the centre of the defence, which is why, with just one year left on his current deal, he’s thinking about a move abroad.
Nice-Matin explain the Fulham target believes it’s ‘the right time to try a new challenge’, and talks have already started between the French club and Fiorentina.
This means that, should the Cottagers’ interest prove strong, Slavisa Jokanovic and co. will need to move quickly.
