Fulham have ‘given up’ on trying to secure a deal for Atletico Madrid defender Çağlar Söyüncü after finding the player and his club resistant to a move.

That’s according to AS, who say Fulham and Roma have dropped out of the race for the centre back and he now has three options left on the table.

Söyüncü only joined Atletico in the summer on a free transfer but has barely featured for Diego Simeone’s side this season.

He now wants to depart, albeit temporarily, so he can get regular game time in the second half of the season and ensure he is part of Turkey’s plans at Euro 2024.

Fulham had been one of the sides looking into a potential deal for him, but several reports had indicated there was a growing confidence that the other suitors had jumped ahead of them.

AS now indicate that Fulham may have allowed them to do so, stating that Marco Silva’s side ‘have given up’ on the transfer idea for various reasons but mostly because of the player’s own will and that of Atletico’s management.

That would seem to suggest that Söyüncü wasn’t keen on the move anyway and Fulham found Atletico’s demands unreasonable.

Thus, it appears he will be going elsewhere, most likely back to Turkey, and those in charge at Craven Cottage will look for a new defender somewhere else.
