On Christmas Eve, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo who claimed that Frenkie de Jong has received offers from Barcelona, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
The front page of today’s Sport claims ‘De Jong gives the OK’ as the 21-year-old accepted the conditions offered by the La Liga winners and now it is between the two clubs to close the agreement.
The midfielder is ‘one step away’ from making a switch to Camp Nou after the Blaugrana took a giant step forward in their efforts to secure his services after he said ‘OK’ to joining them. Half the work is already done.
It’s explained the player wanted to hear proposals from other clubs before coming to any conclusion and even though the offers from elsewhere were ‘astronomical’, the Netherlands international was attracted to the sporting project of the Catalan club.
Now it is for Barcelona to reach an agreement with the Eredivisie outfit, who are demanding €75m for the midfielder, but the former are trying to lower the price to €60m.
However, Ernesto Valverde’s side have made it clear that they will reach an agreement with Ajax for De Jong and the signing is ‘fully on track’.
