Antoine Griezmann had verbally agreed a deal worth €16m per year to join Barcelona last summer, but the forward announced his decision to stay with Atletico Madrid via a documentary titled ‘The Decision’.
The 28-year-old then signed a new deal with the Europa League winners and is currently earning €23m-a-year with the Spanish capital club.
Since the start of the international break, reports linking the France international to the Blaugrana have resurfaced again and there is one on the front page of today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.
It reads ‘Griezmann bomb’ as the World Cup winner is willing to take a pay cut to make a switch to the Camp Nou this summer.
The Catalan newspaper explains the former Real Sociedad star has already sent a message to the La Liga winners regarding his regret over rejecting them before the start of this season.
His dream of winning the Champions League was crushed following elimination at the hands of Juventus.
In addition to this, the attacker saw his teammate Lucas Hernandez agree to join Bayern Munich in the summer and the likes of Filipe Luis, Diego Costa, Diego Godin and Saul Niguez could leave the club after this campaign.
Griezmann has not seen his expectations fulfilled this term, while Ernesto Valverde’s side are in the race to win the treble. At Atletico, he no longer sees a lot of options to win titles and grow individually.
He has a release clause of €200m in his contract, which will be reduced to €120m from July 1st and if Barcelona decide to make an approach for Griezmann, they do not have to negotiate with Diego Simeone’s side.
Mundo reports Griezmann is one of the options available on the table for Barca, but no final decision has been made yet.
