Front page of Catalan newspaper Sport has a story which claims Barcelona have already reached an agreement with Ajax for Frenkie De Jong.
The Dutch club wanted to keep player, but the 21-year-old is keen on playing alongside Lionel Messi. Ajax director of football Marc Overmars is said to have already agreed to the Spanish champions’ proposal for De Jong.
It should be seen whether the player’s incorporation at Barcelona will be done this summer or in 2019 and it depends if Ajax will qualify for the new season’s Champions League or not.
Erik ten Hag saw his side settle for a 2-2 draw against Standard Liège in the first leg of the qualifiers. The return leg will be played in Amsterdam next week.
Overmars has made it clear to Barcelona that they want to keep the midfielder, if they qualify for the Europe’s elite club competition they will allow him join the Blaugrana next summer. Otherwise, the insinuation is he will be allowed to complete a move to Camp Nou this summer.
Sport claims Barcelona should prepare a fee of €50m to close De Jong’s signing.
